By way of explanation..In the Milton Keynes area the main link roads are called grid roads and form a roughly east-west and north-south grid. East-west roads are called 'H' roads for 'horizontal' on the map and are all called 'Ways'. i.e. Monks Way.
North-south roads are called 'V' roads for (yes you guessed it!) vertical on the map and are called 'Streets'. i.e. Marlborough Street.
Thus you can't get lost...theoretically...However just to confuse matters in the town centre the east-west roads are called Boulevards and the north-south roads are called 'Gates'...but we won't tell you that! to avoid confusion.

If you are travelling around Milton Keynes look for the last road direction sign before each roundabout. This will tell you the name and number of the grid road you are about to cross and the directions, east, west, north or south. This should give you some sense of orientation, but you have to know the location of your destination in the city!

The Civil Parish of Kent's Hill & Monkston as determined by statute is a part of the Unitary Authority of Milton Keynes.
The Parish is situated on the eastern flank of the city, about 2.5 miles from the centre. The boundaries are the grid road Chaffron Way H7 to the north together with the Broughton Brook, the grid road Grove Way H9 to the south, the river Ousel and Brickhill Street V10 to the west and finally the A5130 to the east. The MK grid squares of Kingston, Brinklow, Kents Hill, Kents Hill Park, Monkston and Monkston Park form the Parish. There are about 3100 houses of mixed type here.
Monkston Park is the most recent developement.

The industrial and commercial areas of Kingston & Brinklow are also in our Parish. They provide many jobs especially in the District Centre of Kingston, where high profile shops are found. These provide a magnet for locals and passersbye.
The M1 junction 14, re-modelling work is now complete and traffic flow is much better. Traffic lights are in use at peak times. M1 junction 13 will also receiving some re-modelling to make the access roads wider and a new roundabout with a motorway flyover, and new A421 dualling through Brogborough on the other side of the M1 J13.
Every day at the moment at peak times the stretch of A421 from Kingston Roundabout to the M1 J13 is badly congested at peak times.
It is recommended for the time being that you use J14 for all access routes to MK whilst J13 work is in progress during peak hours. During off peak hours passing through J13 in any direction is resonably easy.
In about a years time there will be an almost unhindered dual carriageway route via the A421 from Milton Keynes to the A1 beyond Bedford at the Black Cat roundabout, fantastic for east - west travellers.
The area is reached by road from the north or south M1, leaving at Junction 14. Leave the exit roundabout following signs to Milton Keynes. Take 2nd exit at the next roundabout, proceed until a petrol station is reached, turn left here. Follow the dual carriageway (Tongwell St) to the next roundabout which is called 'Monkston Roundabout'. This is situated at the NE corner of the Parish.
For Monkston carry straight on at the Monkston Roundabout and then in 200 yds turn right across the dual carriageway into Monkston via Lindisfarne Drive.
For Kent's Hill carry straight on at the Monkston Roundabout, turn right at the next roundabout called 'Brinklow' onto the A421 (Standing Way) proceed another 400 yards and then turn left into Kent's Hill.
For Monkston Park turn right at the Monkston Roundabout proceed along Chaffron Way H7 until the Oakgrove roundabout, turn left here on to Brickhill Street V10 and after 200 yards turn right into Monkston Park.
If you are travelling from the east or west, that is Bedford or Oxford directions, you will probably be using the A421 (it's called Standing Way H8) within the city. All the grid squares of the Parish are signposted off the A421.
