MILTON KEYNES PLAY ASSOCIATION'S PLAY SESSIONS ARE A WINNER! Update 8th December 2011
Published by MKPA: 'The open-access play sessions run by MKPA’s Summer Team were the recipients of the ‘Community Project of the Year’ prize at the Pride in MK Awards on 29th November.
Beating off tough competition in a very busy category, the Summer Project was praised for its wide-reaching service and the massive number of children it provides quality play sessions for. This year, the impressive stats mean that as many as 14,000 children and young people will have come along to take part in various fun activities. The way the project is structured means that it works in many Parishes, Towns and Communities, so the good work is spread far and wide.
MKPA would like to take this opportunity to thank the Parish and Town Councils that fund these sessions each year, and support us with continuing this valuable service. The feedback every year from the children and families that attend really make all of the efforts worthwhile. As the sessions are run largely by students that are pursuing studies in subjects such as teaching, youth work and child psychology, we are also laying the foundations for the future, with many of our past staff now in the early stages of promising careers.
In these tough economic times, we really hope to see the project continue to be successful, and for all of our hard work to continue for a long time to come. We know that many families in the areas we operate not only love the sessions, but rely on the service every year to help them through the long summers that would be a very expensive period for them if we weren’t in place to give them regular activities right on their doorstep.'
The Kents Hill and Monkston Parish Council funds play sessions each Easter and Summer for the school holidays, and, for the first time in 2011, funded some themed play sessions for the October half term. These were a resounding success and the council will be looking to develop similar plans for 2012.
FUTURE OF KINGSTON LIBRARY - GET INVOLVED!
Update 8th December 2011
Milton Keynes Council has now formally confirmed that the current Kingston library will NOT be closing before the new library facility is built. This is great news for local residents, and we will be encouraging local people in 2012 to give their to support to the business case, confirming the need for this new library at Kingston.
We still need your Views!
Milton Keynes Council is looking for a new way to deliver library services in Kingston and the surrounding area. The proposals contained in the draft report ‘Future Libraries – Milton Keynes’ recommend that the current library at Kingston Community Centre is closed in April 2012 and will be replaced in 2013-14 with a new building to house a larger library and community facilities on the site of the existing pub in Kingston Centre.
Until that time, Milton Keynes Council is inviting feedback on one of two options, a) to retain the current library as it is, or b) provide a mobile service and activity/events programme to reach across the community and engage new library users. The report proposes two half day sessions per week for the area if the library is to go ‘mobile’ replacing the current 27 hours per week service at Kingston. Either would continue until the new library is in place. The Council also need to demonstrate demand for a new library.
There is a period of public consultation, inviting your feedback on the draft report and the interim service at Kingston from 19th October 2011 – 12th January 2012. The plan is already on the website www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/library_services and from 19th October will be at other Milton Keynes libraries.
Please have your say - the future of the library is in your hands. Here’s how to get involved:
- Read the draft report and proposals online from 19th October and give your comments and input to MK Council via their website or at any of the libraries in Milton Keynes
- Use the library! Opening hours Tuesday 10am – 6pm, Thursday and Friday 1pm – 5.30pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 1pm – 4pm.
This is a unique opportunity for residents to get involved in the decisions about libraries in our area.

Referendum Following the standard electoral process, there is an 'uncontested election' for the Kents Hill and Monkston Parish Council. This means that we did not receive more nominations than Parish Council seats available. Therefore, the candidates nominated for each of the three Parish Council Wards will automatically become Parish Councillors from 9th May. The notices above provide this information.
This will mean we will have two seats to which the Parish Council is able to co-opt. If you are interested in becoming a Parish Councillor please get in touch with the Clerk as soon as possible. We hope to co-opt Parish Councillors to these seats at the June Parish Council meeting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
